What is the likelihood of introduction to Australia?
Brown marmorated stink bugs are hitchhiking pests, which means that they are most likely to be introduced into Australia on plants, imported fruit and vegetables or items that they have infested for surviving winter, such as imported shipping containers, vehicles or machinery (Figure 7; DAWR 2015). For example, in New Zealand in 2010, a single Brown marmorated stink bug was found on a used vehicle that was imported from Japan (Zhu et al. 2012).
